Artist Statement

As a former Studio Art major, much of the work I’ve focused on and created has been traditional painting and drawings. Recently I’ve branched out in an attempt to create more digital work to broaden my portfolio’s range, and demonstrate my proficiency with various programs.

The pieces included show my ability in creating a large breadth of art. I am someone who prefers simplicity and elegance, both in my traditional work as well as in my animation. But I also want elements of fun in there; little touches that keep my work upbeat and interesting. Dynamic, motion-filled lines and shapes, with vibrant colors that allow for simple forms that catch the eye.

My art is traditional, but my portfolio has been gaining digital pieces as I learn more about animation and how it works. Illustration and animation are forms of storytelling, and the more I discover the processes involved in these practices, the more I fall in love with them. There is an element of fun, of vibrancy and life that I struggle and try to bring into my work, and I am still trying to figure out how to make art that isn’t just brilliant, but beautiful and heartfelt as well.
